The National Reports produced by the EIW Project provide an overview of the current situation in each partner country affecting the intercultural work environment. This background research is important as it underpins our understanding of the situation across Europe, and lays the foundations for comparisons and trans-national analyses between partner countries. It allows us to identify the common challenges and opportunities of an increasingly intercultural European work environment, as well as the country-specific and sector-specific issues arising. It also enables us to examine how the longer-term experience of managing intercultural workplace issues in certain partner countries can inform policies/practices in countries with less experiences.

Each National Report is divided into two parts: (1) A National Situational Analysis and (2) Case Studies. The Situation Analysis examines the current intercultural workplace in that country, investigating issues such as the history of immigration, areas where immigrants are most likely to be employed, the status of asylum seekers and refugees, as well as government, business and civic responses to these changes. Drawing together statistical data and existing research, it provides a comprehensive picture of intercultural workplaces across all major sectors. The Case Studies are designed to assess the situation and conditions on the ground. Each country has conducted between 4-7 case studies in their most relevant areas in public, private and educational sectors, and each study analyses workplace issues from the perspectives of Management, Employees and Customers.

A primary aim of these National Reports is to identify examples of good practice and make recommendations that will assist policy makers and practitioners in their attempts to create a harmonious intercultural workplace and foster a culture of learning in each partner country. The National Reports are also a resource of useful information for both prospective foreign workers and employers in need of foreign labour of the policies and steps that need to be taken for an easier and more effective process of integration into the workplace. The National Reports form the basis from which the EIW Training materials and the Trans-national Sector-Specific Booklets have been developed.

These National Reports were finalised in mid-2007. Some of them may have been updated since then. Please check with the partner in your area.
